Soul Tie ? Puzzled ? What's that ? Today we will see what soul ties are.
What is a Soul Tie ?
A soul tie binds to the emotions of a person. In soul tie our emotions, desire, passion, mind, heart, soul gets bound to that person. The soul tie happens when we spend more time with a person. So it is very important to hang around or to keep relationship / friendship with a right person.
Irrespective of whom you spend your time with, no matter its a boy or a girl, a brother or a sister, a friend or a girl friend or a boyfriend, Soul ties can occur in any relationship.
To describe soul tie, I will be taking two references from the Bible. The first reference is taken from the book of 1 Samuel 18:1 says, "After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in Spirit with David, and he loved him as himself." And second reference is taken from Psalms 1:1 and it says "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers"
Here the Psalmist says that those who keep themselves away from the counsel of the wicked, sinners and mockers, they are blessed. This does not clearly portrays soul ties, but the Psalmist warns us indirectly to stay away from such people because that may create a soul tie and we may tend to share in the spirit of them as Jonathan and David became one in Spirit.
Again in Proverbs 13:16 Solomon says, "He who walks with the wise grows wise but the companion of fools suffers harm"
Types of Soul Ties
There are two types of Soul Ties :-
1) Godly Soul Ties
This type of soul tie occurs between the believers who worship God with one mind and one spirit.
Paul says in Roman 12:5, "In Christ we form one body". The scripture clearly says that we belong to one body whose head is Christ and we all have same Spirit of God but the gifts of the Holy Spirit may defer from person to person depending on the will of God and also on his call.
2) Ungodly Soul Ties
This soul tie occurs when you associate with people full of negativity, hatred, envy, jealousy, anger, wrong attitude and who walks against the word of God.
It is very important to cut off from those people as you may share in the soul ties. It is very important to identify this soul tie and it's only possible in the light of God. As the scripture says "In the light of God every motives of the person will be revealed."
Why Soul Tie is dangerous ?
In 1Corinthians 5:11 and 13 Paul says that, "You must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolator or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. Expel a wicked man from among you", because eating and spending time with such people can give rise to soul ties. Its not directly mentioned but indirectly it points out on soul ties.
They can be evil friends who may influence us to do the wrong things which will take us away from God and may destroy our future completely. So we should be very careful while choosing friends with whom we spend more time, with whom we desire to stay. (This thing we can clearly see in Psalms 1). Such people are mind blockers, destiny destroyers, spoil our future and will divert us in the wrong way.
Even its psychologically proved, that we tend to become and behave like a person with whom we spend more and more time.
Because soul ties makes us slave to that person. Physically we might not be serving him but mentally and spiritually we serve them and we make them our idle.
How we are destroying ourself through Soul Tie, any guesses ?
See we make them our idle and slowly we start worshipping them by obeying them and living according to their will, their desire, their convenience, their luxury and their happiness. We keep on thinking about them, about their happiness, about their settlement, about their luxury and also about the happiness of their near and dear one's.
We start working for them and living for them and not for God. So that means we have started treating that person as God.
Anyone to whom we give a position greater than that of God indirectly becomes an idle. That means our body becomes the temple of that person. But the scripture says in 1 Corinthians 3:17, "If anyone destroy's the temple of God, then God will destroy him; for the temple of the God is sacred, and you are the temple of God."
And many youths now a days are prone to such soul ties.
How can we break this Soul Tie ?
I have implemented this solution and this helped me to break the Soul Tie. First of all it is very important to identify the soul tie. If you find yourself in the above situation, then you need to follow this simple four steps :
1] Ask for the Peace of God
- We will have to break the soul ties or else soul ties will break us. They can torment our mind and this is not the will of God.God wants us to live in peace as the scripture says. So when Satan attacks our soul with a soul tie, we need to ask God for peace.
- As its written in "Philippians 4:7, And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
2] Come into the presence of God
- In the presence of God, there is peace and love. The scripture clearly says that "God is love and where there is love there is God". And again Paul says that "And now these three remains: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love."
3] Let go off. (Implement 5F method)
a) Forgive
- We will have to forgive every hurt and bitterness that we carry because of that person.
- Forgiveness opens the door for peace and how it happens we will see in my next blog.
b) Forget
- We will have to let go off everything that is connecting us with that person and even we will have to let go off every hope and expectation for that person to return back in our life.
- Its like closing the doors of our heart and mind for that person forever.
c) Fellowship with the Light
d) Fellowship with the believers
- Soul ties occur when we spend more and more time with a person. So Paul always emphasised on meeting regularly with one another in church with thanksgiving, prayer and praises to God.
- Also he says to pray for one another and meet as long it is called today, since that will keep us away from unwanted bondages. It is said in 1Peter 2:17, "Love the brotherhood of believers"
e) Follow the footstep of Christ
- Christ always kept his eye upon God and he desired nothing from this world. In the same way we will also have to follow his footstep and move on in our life.
4] Ask God to fill us with his Holy Spirit
- Its given in 2 Cor 3:17, "Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is always Freedom".
- That means The Spirit of the Lord will give us freedom from every unwanted bondages and soul ties and will always guide us and counsel us.
5] Ask for the Word Of God
- Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitude of the hearts". That means the word of God alone can give us a break through these soul ties and will also give us the wisdom to differentiate between the spirits and attitude of the person. Because of which we will be able to check whether the person is God chosen one or filled with darkness.
- Devil is very smart. He will send a person who will speak for our good but deep inside his heart he may carry wrong motives which God knows clearly because God knows the motives and thoughts of every man is open before him. So Prayer and the word of God will act miracles and will deliver us from every soul ties.
My experience with soul ties and how I overcame it
I had a friend named Mr.A (Name cannot be revealed). He was full of negativity, jealousy and self centric. This I am talking about my college days when I was doing my Master's. We became good friends and gradually we became brothers. We used to spend most of our time with each other and used to party all the time.
I didn't notice a change in my behaviour but people around me were noticing it. I skipped my church service due to my college, I stopped reading bible, I stopped fasting and spending time in the presence of God. My granny was on her death bed and she wanted to spend her last days with me and here I was busy partying with him. I didn't notice that I too have become self centric and selfish, only thinking about myself and not about God's will.
This hampered my relationship with God as I gradually developed anger and hatred in me. Later stepped in jealousy and lies. I started lying to my Mom for no reason. Sudden change in my behaviour hurted my mom and my near one's started moving out of my life. Slowly I started losing my good friends, my relationship with my Father Lord Almighty was dried up completely, I started to be away from Mom crunching and quarrelling with her for no reason. I became presumptuous. I lost my peace from within.
While on the other hand, Mr A indeed used to be very happy. His dull life became joyful. His family members who rejected him before, accepted him again. Whatever he had lost before, got restored again. His broken relationship with his girl friend, his relationship with his manager and bosses, his relationship with his cousin's and aunt. In short his saddened life was totally changed to a joyous and blessed life while my joyous life was turned to a cursed one. Mr. A's nature was reflecting in me and I shared in his curse while he shared with me in my blessings.
And now my granny passed away. This was the time when my whole world turned upside down. I was guilty that during her last days, I wasn't able to spend time with her. Even though she was asking for me and desperate to see me, I was busy there partying with my so called friend. So I used to remain upset. Suddenly one day, a man of God intend to visit us. While praying for me, he noticed a change in my behaviour and the Spirit of the Lord him to the things I was going through.
He addressed me the problem and told me about the soul tie. I was puzzled as these things were new to me. I repented and started my journey by taking my first footstep towards my Father in Heaven. This might sound easy for other's but for me it was difficult as I had a strong soul tie with him and he never allowed me to step out of his life. Whenever I decided to stop talking to him, he used to come to me with tears, which melted my heart. Being elder to him, and being his so called elder brother stopped me from doing this. I didn't know how to come out of that soul tie.
One day while reading the Bible, I came across the verse "Cast your burden upon Jesus." Then I realised, "Hey dude, with your little strength it is impossible but for God everything is possible."
Then I kneeled before my Father in Heaven and I told him "Lord you know what I am going through. I don't want this brotherhood as this has become a burden for me. I have lost your presence and your spirit is completely dried up. Lord I don't want to lose you. I want you Father more than anybody else. You have shown me the way. By keeping faith on you I have decided to return back to you, O Lord, as I have no one except you. Now you only take control of this situation. In Jesus name, Amen."
You won't believe, from the next day, Mr. A and I stopped talking with each other as his girlfriend created restrictions. This caused me to lose my mind and we started quarrelling over small issues and this made him to say "Reuben, I don't want you any more in my life." This cleared my path to break off every bonds. For few days it was difficult for me to forget about him, but I started spending most of my time in the presence of God, fasting and praying. Finally by the grace of God, I came out of my soul tie and that burdened relationship.
This took time but it became possible only when I casted all my burdens upon Jesus and I allowed him to take control of the situation. Things become possible only when we depend on God and not on our strength and wisdom.
Very well written. God bless you immensely !!
